The description of Frog.

Frogs are a favorite food for bass, blackfish, pike, and some other predatory fish. There are many species of frog lures, including the hard-plastic bait frog with three hooks, the hollow soft plastic frog with double hooks that are upturned, stuck on the body, and will not get hooked when passing weeds and trees. Solid soft bait frogs usually come with a somewhat heavy hook. The heads of these water-floating thunder frogs may be concave shapes with wide-open mouths, which are forward in order to allow the frogs to splash and ripple during swimming. Most hollow and soft bait frogs are used in areas with heavy vegetation, and their hooks do not hang grass, allowing you to fish in duckweed-heavy waters at any time.

When fishing for bass, top water frogs on the water can be added to your tackle box. Frogs can open up many new fishing spots for you. When traditional baits are nearly impossible to fish on these thick duckweeds, frogs are well suited to these scenarios.
The two most common types of frog lures are the regular type frog and the popping frog.

What is the Right Rod for Frog Fishing?

1. Go to the big tackle stores and check out their incredible wall of rods, Bass Pro or Cabela's will do, they have all the fishing rods on the planet. If you can buy 25 rods, you're really lucky, but not everyone can do that. With that said, frog fishing is a technique where you really need a dedicated rod in order to get the fish right.

2. A heavy rod with a fast or extra fast tip (stiff tip) is essential. This allows you to get the right kind of action on the frog, but also have the power to pull the fish out of the thickest cover. You can find a lot of frog rods that can also double as really good flipping and pitching setups, so you can use it for multiple techniques if you’re on a tight budget.

The types of Frog Lure are: hollow body frog, frogs that pop and spit frog, hard-plastic bait frog, soft-plastic bait frog and so on. With so many options, anglers can have a hard time choosing which is best for them. The following summary explains when and where each type of frog is suitable for bass fishing.

A. Hollow Body Frog

The hollow frog is mainly characterized by a hollow, flexible plastic body with upturned double hooks. The body is stuck on the hook, and it will not hang grass, and because it is very soft, it is easy for the fish to catch the bait when it bites the hook.

When fishing in waters with a lot of duckweed, the angler can drag the hollow-body frog through the duckweed on the surface. If you are a beginner, the duckweed-covered water may look thick and difficult to fish, but this is the exact opposite. The vegetation only looks thick on the surface, but the water is very empty, and bass are especially fond of hunting in such areas.

Hollow frogs are the most exciting way to fish in waters where duckweed is lush. Look for vegetated waters with plate-sized gaps in between, often through which bass can jump. You can catch active bass by quietly listening to the popping sounds of small fish feeding under the duckweed.

B. Hard-Plastic Frogs

Due to their exposed treble hooks feature that snag in wood or grass cover, realistic hard plastic frogs are used in open water. They have natural frog bodies and color patterns that match the real thing. The angler imparts by working the rod in a certain manner using the “walk-the-dog” side-to-side movement.

To do the walk-the-dog action, twitch the rod down on the half-tight line. Repeat this action over and over quickly to make it move back and forth in a zigzag pattern across the water. Heddon Spook's hard-bait thunder frog-dog crawl has a lot of action, and there are many, such as Rebel's Frog-R, which are also very good, and can be more effective in clear water where fish can be seen.

This type of hard bait frog is also very suitable for fishing in small areas of water, such as ponds and streams. These environments usually don't have many small river herrings or other small fish, which allows frogs and other baits to do their job so well that the perch only sees the bait.

C. Popping Frogs

Both the Hollow body Frog and the Hard-plastic frog can be made into the shape of the popping mouth frog. Its characteristic face is preceded by a large concave mouth that twitches to allow it to splash as it swims. Compared with other frogs, the popping frogs of these two materials can make the water surface more volatile.

This style of lure is simply fun to throw and catch fish on. Popping or chugging top waters are nothing new, but anglers are discovering that there are times with a realistic frog look is more effective than the traditional style that mimics a baitfish.

The hollow-body frog is as effective in clean water as in water with duckweed. When these frogs twitch in the gaps in the duckweed, or can enter open water from the edge of the duckweed, they make fish-attracting pops and splashes. This also works well in low-light environments, when bass leave the duckweed area and enter open water to feed.

The shape and swimming style of the frog also make it effective in particularly dense duckweed areas, such as weeds near the shore mixed with wood, especially in areas that have just flooded, with various grasses, thorns, shrubs floating clumps and floating debris. The ability to not hang grass helps the hollow thunder frog to traverse these obstacles, and the large concave mouth makes big noises on the water like a dishonest living creature.

A hard-plastic popping frog still walks-the-dog on the surface but adds more splash and commotion to attract fish from farther away. It’s the bait-of-choice in more stained water and in windy or low light conditions, and for small waters such as ponds and small natural lakes.

D. Soft-Plastic Frogs

The solid soft-bait frog, like the hollow frog, does not hang on grass, but sinks slowly instead of floating on the surface. The angler will put the hook through a wide slot in the frog's body, usually a hook with a little weight, which acts like a keel to keep the frog swimming in a straight line, with the body facing up.

Soft-bait frogs feature legs that kick and swing around. Lift the rod up, hold the 1 o'clock position, and reel at a medium speed, and the soft bait frog will buzz and swim across the water, and the soft plastic frog will buzz across the water, but when it stops When the line is reeled, it will slowly sink like a comatose little frog.

Soft-plastic frogs are most effective when fish are active, and in areas with shoreline vegetation and moss. In these areas a buzzbait will quickly foul as the moss and grass twists and clogs the spinning blade, but a soft-plastic frog comes right through.

E. Other Frogs

Many baits mimic the shape and swimming of this amazing amphibian and come in a variety of shapes and styles. There is a unique species of frog called Buzz'n frog, which has the shape and color pattern of the frog, plus vocal legs that can spin or send out huge waves on the water surface to attract and catch fish. The company that makes the Buzz’n frog also makes two ultralight Crankbait hardbait versions of the frog called the Wee Frog and the Teeny Wee Frog. These two small frogs are effective when fishing in streams or small waters, using them to twitch on the surface like pulling a crankbait. Smallmouth fish in creeks love them.

The material of hollow body frog is PVC and the technique of producing is Rotocast (搪胶). The material of hard plastic frog is ABS, similar to hard lure. The material of soft plastic frog is PVC, similar to soft lure.

Fishing Frog Lure is a small industry, but has the most various technique and various design. Because the Rotocast technique is also used on children’s toy, so that many companies design the hollow frog lure as craft products.
